Report: Online Ordering Up Among COVID-19 Pandemic
5-21-2020
American consumers are increasing the frequency of their online ordering as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, a new report from Auriemma Group has found.
According to the report, which surveyed both American and British consumers, 45 percent of Americans say that they are ordering online more frequently because of the stay-at-home orders affecting most consumers. Close to 80 percent of all consumers surveyed said they are visiting businesses less frequently because of the pandemic, meaning that ecommerce is filling gaps for shopping needs. Groceries are a clear growth category; 60 percent of Americans say they have stocked up on food and household items.
Mirroring data from ETA members Visa and Mastercard, Auriemma Group found that 34 percent of Americans are more frequently using contactless payments because of the pandemic.
Economic uncertainty has also impacted consumer spending, the report found. Most Americans (65 percent) have reduced their non-essential spending, and 81 percent are concerned about their finances.
