POS Messaging Increases Mobile Payments

USA Technologies Inc. (USAT), a payments provider which facilitates cashless transactions at vending machines, has completed a six-month point-of-sale advertising test, encouraging consumers to choose Apple Pay. The study found that when the message “Pay with your favorite card using Apple Pay” was digitally displayed at the self-service retail point-of-sale, mobile wallet payments increased by 135.2%, and that total transactions increased by nearly 45%. Revenue generated through mobile wallet purchases increased by 55.5%, and users also spent more per transaction.

The study took place using 35 vending machines that utilize USAT’s ePort® interactive displays. The display provides digital marketing space and is capable of processing both magnetic stripe cards and NFC payments.

According to USAT, “Six months into the study, the data speaks for itself, suggesting that retailers of all kinds may benefit from this type of targeted messaging”. Full study results are available here.
