ETA and BAFT Host International Payments Policy Day

High-level policy discussions offered concrete insights on the changing policy landscape for international payments and financial technology

The Electronic Transactions Association, in conjunction with BAFT, an international financial services association, today hosted International Payments Day in Washington, D.C. This forum, part of ETA’s annual series of policy events, helped senior level individuals representing policymakers, companies, think tanks, law firms, law enforcement and members of the media to better understand how international regulators are thinking about the fintech space.

“As fintech and traditional companies are converging, it’s important to analyze how current US and international regulation will impact this new business model,” said Scott Talbott, SVP of Government Affairs at ETA. “It’s vital to understand which regulations create an environment that encourage growth and innovation.”

This half-day of high-level meetings focused on the challenges and opportunities for the payments system around the globe. Panel discussions included insights on the emerging international payments issues, global decline of correspondent banking relationships, and international regulation of fintech.

“We are honored to host this important event alongside our friends at ETA,” said Tod Burwell, president and CEO of BAFT. “Policymakers around the world are responding to the new world of fintech and it’s vital that we provide our members with guidance on navigating the path forward.”
