The payments industry has gone through a revolution over the past decade as new technologies have been integrated into the ecosystem to make the payments process a smoother experience for all. However, there is more to come as technology continues to evolve and new platforms become the future of commerce.

This topic was in focus at TRANSACT, the largest conference in payments technology,  in the SecureTrust Main Stage panel “Digital Transformations: Platforms of the Future,” with speakers Marc Castrechini, Vice President of Product Management at TSYS, Brad Giles, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales Enablement at Ingenico, Amy Parsons, Senior Vice President of Global Acceptance at Discover Global Network, and Jordan McKee, Research Director at 451 Research as moderator.

The panel discussed their views on the digitization of the payments industry and what skills are now necessary for success in the industry.

“It’s not just people with finance backgrounds,” McKee says, “you need people with developer skills, with engineering backgrounds.”

The panel also focused on what each main speaker’s organization is doing to create platforms for the future of commerce, as well as touch upon what aspect of payments will change drastically in the future.

“Wherever we’re trying to achieve something in business that we want to grow, we put that platform moniker on it and form a strategy around it,” Castrechini says.
