Transaction Trends

On Thursday, September 6^th, ETA hosted its annual FinTech Policy Forum/TRANSACT Tech DC at Google’s office in Washington, D.C.  This event brought together ETA members with federal, state, and international policymakers to discuss the intersection of financial technology (FinTech) and public policy. Topics discussed include the latest in payments technology; FinTech, credit, and the economy; how state and federal regulators view FinTech; the Department of the Treasury’s FinTech Report; international payments, the convergence of traditional players in financial services and new entrants; how the FTC views FinTech; and artificial intelligence (AI).

Representative Tom Graves (R-GA) kicked off the event with a keynote address in which he discussed the importance of FinTech to Georgia. Former industry executive Representative Mike Bishop (R-MI) followed him and discussed how FinTech is changing the IRS. Finally, Representative Randy Hultgren (R-IL), co-chair of the Congressional FinTech and Payments Caucus, closed the event with a speech in which he emphasized his belief in and commitment to FinTech, covered the congressional landscape for the remainder of the year, and provided an update on recent activity in the House Committee on Financial Services and the Congressional FinTech and Payments Caucus.

The audience included Hill and regulators staff, law enforcement, thing thanks, academia, lawyers, trade associations, lobbyists, and the media.  ETA would like to thank all members who spoke and attended for making this year’s event another successful one!
