On Wednesday, September 11th, ETA members from across the ecosystem gathered on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. to spend the day meeting with policymakers in Congress and across the government to advocate for payments technology growth and innovation.

ETA Members visit Capitol Hill before morning meetings commence

Over 35 executives from ETA member companies participated in nearly 30 meetings during the Fly-In. Participants met with Members or their staff from both the House of Representatives and the Senate, including Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA), Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD), Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI), and Sen. Shelly Moore Capito (R-WVA) .  Participants also met with federal regulators from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Federal Reserve, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and the Administration.

With payments issues in the spotlight, now is an important time for ETA members to engage in industry advocacy in Washington. ETA members operate in all 50 states, so payments executives told policymakers that a uniform national privacy standard is needed to provide certainty and predictability for both consumers and ETA members.  They also argued for a permissible use of data to help fight fraud.
