Japan Welcomes Bitcoin “Light Bulb Moment”
9-28-2016
Japanese Bitcoin service firm Coincheck Denki (Electric) has announced a new service enabling residents of central Japan to pay their electricity bills using the buzz-worthy crypto-currency Bitcoin.
Beginning this November, the users employing Bitcoin for payments will also enjoy savings on their bills, up to 6% for heavy electric-users. The savings will be automatically remitted and stored in the user’s Coincheck wallet.
While starting its Bitcoin Payments endeavor in partnership with Japanese electricity providers, Coincheck plans to expand its scope to gas, water and mobile device billing in the future, and also to expand service into to other regions of Japan.
