Mobile Technology Companies Have Record Breaking Financing Quarter

October 25, 2013 – In the third quarter of 2013, venture capitalists invested $1.12 billion in U.S. mobile companies, making it the biggest venture capital financing quarter in history for this sector. In addition, this period also marked the highest number of mobile deals ever in a quarter, according to a study by CB Insights.

Mobile funding and deals have grown steadily over the past three quarters, with customer relationship management, business intelligence, and payment technologies attracting the most dollars. 500 Startups is the most active mobile investor so far in 2013, followed by Andreessen Horowitz, Google Ventures, SV Angel, and Qualcomm Ventures.

Mobile payments plays a huge role in this surge. While mobile payments constitutes a mere fraction of all payment activity today, it’s not going to be that way for long. Gartner Inc., for instance, predicts worldwide mobile payment transaction values will reach $235.4 billion in 2013, a 44 percent increase from 2012 values. In just four years, 450 million users will be utilizing mobile-payment technology for an estimated $721 billion billion in transaction value.
