Amusement Park Visitors Go Cashless With RFID Wristbands

Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom in Pennsylvania has introduced FastPay, an RFID-based payment solution embedded in a waterproof wristband. The technology lets guests create and load a prepaid account at a kiosk or gift shop so they can make payments by tapping the wristband at point of sale counters. FastPay is designed to eliminate the need for guests to carry wallets, cash, or credit cards within the water park or adjoining amusement park. The wristband can be reused after the balance is exhausted, and can be reloaded at any time at a park kiosk or gift shop. Dorney Park’s Michael Fehnel says FastPay is more convenient for guests, who typically leave their wallets or purses in lockers, because they no longer have to go back and retrieve their money to make purchases. Dorney Park installed four kiosks where users can obtain a disposable RFID wristband and load money into a prepaid account linked to an ID number encoded to the wristband’s RFID chip. The park has about 210 POS terminals at gift shops, restaurants, and other vendor locations.
