ETA Launches Payment Processor Council
New Processor Council Reinforces ETA as the Hub of Activity in the Processing Industry
Washington, DC / April 25, 2013 — The Electronic Transactions Association (ETA), the trade association of the global payments industry, today announced the launch of its new Processor Council to serve as the voice of the nation’s leading payments processors. The ETA Processor Council was created by the ETA Board of Directors as ETA’s newest committee to provide a new internal forum to serve the needs of ETA’s processor members. In particular, the Processor Council will serve as an ETA “think tank” focusing on maximizing the value, efficiency, and security delivered by the payments industry to its customers through the development and communication of recommendations to help navigate emerging technologies, standards, and regulations.
“The establishment of the Processor Council will further ETA’s mission of growing the payments industry on behalf of its member companies,” said Jason Oxman, CEO of ETA. “The Processor Council has a unique opportunity to mobilize ETA’s productive and comprehensive relationship with more than 500 member companies, including the nation’s largest processors and the card networks, together with ETA’s experienced and knowledgeable staff and unparalleled network of industry volunteers to channel the voice of the processor community.”
The ETA Processor Council’s initial participants are the nation’s largest payment processors, including Elavon, First Data, Global Payments, Heartland Payment Systems, TSYS and Vantiv. The Council is tasked with evaluating and providing recommendations regarding emerging technologies, standards and regulations impacting the processor community, including Europay, MasterCard, and Visa (EMV) standards and migration, emerging payments business models, and security and standards on emerging transaction types.
“The new Processor Council is indicative of ETA’s commitment to the payment processing industry,” Brian Mahony, Chief Strategy Officer for Elavon and Chair of the Council said. “In a time of unprecedented innovation and change in the payments industry, the Processor Council creates an objective voice for the nation’s leading processors.”
In addition to Council Chairman Brian Mahony, Bruce Dragt, Senior Vice President, at First Data will serve as the Vice Chair, and Scott Calliham, Principal of First Annapolis Consulting, will be the ETA industry liaison, working with ETA to support the Council.
