Mobile Wallets from Apple, Google Launch in Europe

ETA Members Apple and Google today launched their popular mobile wallet solutions in Germany and France, respectively. Both product launches are the latest step in a growing effort to increase the usage of mobile payments oversees by the technology giants.
According to a report from 9to5Google, Google Pay’s introduction to France supports Visa and Mastercard payment cards from six banks and credit card companies. ETA member Wirecard’s mobile wallet solution, boon, is among the first to support the payments product. Boursorama Banque, Edenred France, Lydia, N26 and Revolut will also support the wallet at launch.
Similarly, Apple Pay’s launch in Germany is supported by Deutsche Bank, Edenred, 02 Banking, N26, HypoVerensbank, Bunq, Comdirect, Hanseatic Bank, Fidor Bank, VIMPay, American Express, Mastercard, Visa and boon, according to a report from TechCrunch and Apple’s recently launched German Apple Pay website.
Apple’s introduction of its mobile wallet in Germany comes just two weeks after its launch in Belgium and Kazakhstan. Germany joins a growing list of oversees countries that support the wallet, including Australia, China, Singapore, Italy, Sweden, Brazil, Ireland, Japan, Ukraine and others in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
Like Apple, Google Pay’s introduction to France is the latest in a growing list of countries across the world with access to the fast and secure mobile payments service. Last month, Google launched Google Pay in Chile and the United Arab Emirates.
