ETA Mobile Payments Day Hits The Mark!

October 2, 2014 –  Mobile Payments Day, presented jointly by ETA, the Merchant Advisory Group (MAG) and the Federal Communications Bar Association (FCBA), was a sold-out, standing room only success!

During the September 30, 2014 event at the City Club in Washington, D.C., attendees heard from mobile payment companies, retailers, and federal regulators including the FTC and the FCC, discussing their views on policy issues surrounding mobile transactions industry, opportunities and threats, security, consumer experience, EMV migration, tokenization, and breach.

Leaders from companies such as Ahold USA Inc., First Data and Mercury Payments discussed the current and future landscape of mobile payments in the US such as available technology, implementation challenges and opportunities, security and consumer behavior and preferences. Representatives of Amazon, Visa, Wal-Mart and the FCC discussed how mobile payments innovation is enhancing security for consumers including tokenization, authentication methods and P2P encryption. And, AT&T Services, Intuit, SoftCard and Fulton Financialprovided insights on ways user-friendly mobile apps & wallets, mobile app engagement through geo-location, rewards and other technologies are being employed by merchants and technology companies to enhance the customer experience in US commerce.

In her Mobile Payments Day keynote speech, “Putting Your Money Where Your Mouth Is”, FTC Commissioner Maureen Olhausen stressed the importance of consumer protections in mobile. She also said the agency is excited about the new security protections offered by mobile payments.

In addition to the policy discussion, leading payment companies showcased the latest technology in mobile payments at the Mobile Payments Day Tech Expo.
