ETA Names Amy Zirkle as Director of Industry Affairs

June 9, 2014 – The Electronic Transactions Association (ETA), the global trade association of the payments technology industry, today announced the next step in its expanded focus on data security, technological innovation and growing market opportunities for the payments industry with the hiring of payments technology expert Amy Zirkle as Director of Industry Affairs.

“Amy’s dual experience with technology and financial services, as well as mobile payments in the developing world, enables her to provide valuable strategic insight to our members’ business goals,” said Jason Oxman, CEO of ETA. “Her unique background is an asset to ETA and our member companies and I’m thrilled to welcome her to the team. “

The addition of Ms. Zirkle comes at a time of exceptional growth for the association and the payments technology industry. Last year, the electronic payments industry processed $4.9 trillion in electronic payments, a number projected to grow to $7.3 trillion by 2017. ETA is the nations’ largest payments and technology trade association, representing the world’s top card networks, processors, financial institutions, ISOs, equipment manufacturers, mobile network operators, and technology companies. The association is also committed to supporting entrepreneurs and start-ups by fostering connections to industry leaders and access to capital though its E-Pay Innovation program.

“I am thrilled to join ETA and work closely with our members on the cutting edge of payments technology,” said Ms. Zirkle. “The industry is embracing innovations that expand and transform the payments marketplace, providing tremendous opportunities for ETA member companies to deploy a vast range of new products and services. It is truly an exciting time to be in the payments industry.”

Prior to joining ETA, Ms. Zirkle served as Senior Economist and Regulatory Affairs Advisor for TMG, where she worked on a range of technology matters including mobile payments in the developing world. She also has extensive work experience in both the financial services and technology sectors, including at ETA member American Express and at the former MCI Communications (now ETA member Verizon). Ms. Zirkle holds an S.M. from MIT, where she served as a Research Associate at the MIT Media Lab, and a B.A., magna cum laude, from Queens College of the City University of New York.
