ETA CEO Jason Oxman’s Editorial on Operation Chokepoint
April 28, 2014 – In his recently published editorial in The Hill, ETA CEO Jason Oxman outlines the argument against Operation Chokepoint. This Federal enforcement program, implemented by the Department of Justice and other agencies, takes aim at payments systems instead of directly shooting at its target, unscrupulous merchants.
Oxman illuminates how burdens placed on processors negatively impact commerce and notes that payments companies, sharing mutual security interests with law enforcement, should be partners, not marks.
ETA has developed a new educational program “ETA Guidelines on Merchant and ISO Underwriting and Risk Monitoring” to help ISOs and agents avoid becoming the next target of Operation Chokepoint. Together with executives representing 38 ETA member companies in conjunction with Deana Rich of Rich Consulting, any ETA member company can use these guidelines to engage the best merchant on-boarding and monitoring practices in the industry.
