Starbucks Enhances iPhone Mobile Payment App

Starbucks has announced enhancements to its iPhone mobile payment app that include digital tipping, a new interface, and shake-to-pay functionality. Starbucks’ goals are to expedite transactions, accommodate more payment volume, and bring more customers on board its loyalty rewards program. Digital tipping, in which customers will be able to tip in 50 cent, $1, and $2 increments, was offered per customer request. Meanwhile, the shake-to-pay feature lets customers center their barcode in their Starbucks Card with a shake of their phone. In addition, the rewards status screen has been redesigned, and card balance reloading is now possible. Eleven percent of the merchant’s transactions are facilitated via its mobile app, and Starbucks’ Adam Brotman says the company intends to “expand and improve our digital experience in the months to come.” Starbucks says the new iPhone features will launch on March 19, and will be available on Android later this year.
