Isis Carrier Support Will Add Momentum to Mobile Payment Adoption
Wireless carriers and card issuers backing the Isis mobile payment platform are optimistic about the platforms’ performance going into the holiday season. Isis enables users to make purchases with supported American Express and Chase credit cards using NFC technology. The Isis mobile wallet app is already available for Android devices, an increasing number of which support NFC. Isis says the app also will soon be available on Windows Phone and Blackberry devices. Apple’s refusal to include NFC in its flagship iPhones has long been seen as a major stumbling block for contactless mobile payments, but Isis says it is close to solving this issue with an NFC sleeve that can be attached to any iPhone, giving it NFC capabilities. Isis officials say their goal is to make the payment service platform agnostic, so users of any device on any service can use it. A Verizon spokesperson says the company expects Isis to perform well during the upcoming holiday shopping season. Currently the app is supported by several major retailers, including Toys “R” Us and Radio Shack, and numerous companies, including BMW and Coca-Cola, are partnering with Isis to promote the service.
