U.S. Retailers to Share Cyber Threat Data

The National Retail Federation announced that it would create an Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAC) in June to collect and share intelligence about cybersecurity threats to prevent future attacks such as the one that affected Target and improve the security of consumer data. ISACs—established under a 1998 U.S. presidential directive to encourage security information sharing between the public and private sector—are industry groups with around-the-clock security operation centers that alert members to emerging threats and share information provided by law enforcement and other government agencies. After the Target breach, retailers reported trouble obtaining information from law enforcement about the breach and how to prevent follow-on attacks. Retailers also will receive tips from the new ISAC about fighting hackers.
