PayPal Makes TV Shopping Easier

PayPal and Delivery Agent have partnered to ease shopping through TV, with integration expected to be completed by the third quarter. Delivery Agent’s technology enables shoppers to buy items or make donations related to content viewed on TV programs, and company CEO Mike Fitzsimmons says the agreement will reduce the number of fields a PayPal user has to fill to complete a payment, which should boost merchants’ conversion rates. The deal also will let consumers watching an ad on their TVs click on a pop-up box asking if they would like a coupon for the advertised item, using the remote control to log into their PayPal account to have the coupon downloaded to the account, for later in-store redemption. Last year, PayPal started working with Comcast and TiVo to allow consumers to make TV-related purchases or donations. In April, LG Electronics started enabling shoppers to sign into their PayPal accounts so they do not have to enter as much information to facilitate such transactions. A recent poll of 1,100 consumers found that 68 percent said they are interested in shopping via TV, while 76 percent said they would be interested in buying products or services directly from the commercials they are watching.
