NTT Docomo Sets Global Launch of Mobile Payments Service
Japanese mobile phone operator NTT Docomo is set to take its Osaifu-Keitai mobile payments service global in 2014 in the form a new service, iD/PayPass, being rolled out in partnership with MasterCard. The service will enable Japanese NTT Docomo iD credit card holders to make mobile payments with a smartphone at MasterCard PayPass merchants around the world. Customers will need to have a smartphone that supports both the Osaifu-Keitai payment system and NFC. A pre-launch campaign promoting the service will begin in December with an event in Hawaii during the JAL Honolulu Marathon 2013, before the service is officially launched on Feb. 5, 2014.
