New Study Points to Consumer Preference for Mobile Payments

Consumers are embracing mobile payments at the grocery store, according to a new Symphony EYC survey. Although only a small portion of U.S. and European consumers are now using mobile payments to purchase groceries, evidence suggests there is widespread consumer ease with mobile payments technology. “While American and European grocery shoppers differ in how they are interacting with their grocers, the majority would like to enhance their in-store shopping experience with mobile services,” says Symphony EYC’s Ellen Dixon. “In particular, shoppers want to be able to use their mobile devices to locate specific products within the store, to compare prices with those elsewhere, and to provide feedback and suggestions on grocery assortments.” In the United States, online and mobile orders at Domino’s and Papa John’s pizza chains now comprise 30 percent of each chain’s overall business. Meanwhile, an increasing number of restaurants are taking action to implement proven mobile payment services.
