Micros Partnership to Offer Tablet-Based Mobile Payments
Micros Systems aims to boost the nimbleness of payments by urging business owners to switch from desktop computers to mobile devices. The company recently announced partnership with Dell, Intel, and Microsoft to develop tablet-based systems tailored for the food and beverage, retail, and hotel sectors. Micros chief technology officer Mike Russo says payments mobility is something of a must in restaurants, and he notes that restaurant managers have a long tradition of early adoption of technology that lets them process orders and sales in real time on the floor. Micros’ latest software runs on Intel chip-powered Dell tablets that use the Windows 8.1 operating system, and restaurant managers can use the devices to control cash drawers, scanners, and reservations. In addition, the software monitors analytics such as sales metrics and labor and operational expenses. Russo says part of the hardware/software solution’s appeal is that it is not designed expressly for tech-savvy users, but for those who struggle with technology.
