Self-Regulation Program (ETA SRP)

ETA’s Guidelines on Merchant and ISO Underwriting and Risk Monitoring and its Payment Facilitator Guidelines provide tools for payments companies to work toward the common goal of self-regulation of the payments industry. They were developed through voluntary working groups of ETA members to help companies define their own policies and procedures for merchants or ISOs in order to prevent or avoid illegal or fraudulent acts that harm consumers and the payments industry.

The voluntary best practices provide a roadmap for the acquiring industry to use when onboarding merchants or third parties and demonstrate how to investigate irregular or suspicious activity by prioritizing security and risk mitigation.

Payments companies that attest to ETA that they have adopted and are using the ETA Guidelines will be designated as participants in ETA’s Self-Regulation Program.

Benefits of Attestation

Participating companies will be provided a certificate and can display the designation of their self-regulation on their website and in promotional materials.

Additionally, ETA will list the company on its website and communicate the company’s name to federal regulators as having confirmed its commitment to the ETA Guidelines.

Participating companies are eligible for invitations to special presentations at ETA events, discounts on ETA educational programs focused on risk management and security, and discounts on services from selected ETA member legal firms.

The opportunity is available to any third party in the payments ecosystem that underwrites either merchants or ISOs.
