Google Wallet to Deliver with Dominos Pizza Partnership

April 21, 2014 – Dominos, a leading worldwide pizza delivery chain, is now accepting Google Wallet. Customers can order online using Google’s digital wallet and then select “Buy with Google” during checkout.

Ariel Bardin, Payments Chief at Google, shared insights on Google’s mobile payments at TRANSACT 14. “We started out with Google Wallet, which equaled NFC” Bardin said. Employing short-range wireless technology, Android users could store credit card information and tap-to-pay with their phone and an enabled sales terminal. “We still do that, but now we offer many different types of payments and services.”

“The technology we initially used relied on hardware,” Bardin explained. “And there were a bunch of hurdles to get it out the door using that approach. So we asked ourselves if we could emulate the secure element in software, and make it a core service in Android.”

Google now stores payment credentials in the cloud, making Google Wallet features accessible from anywhere. Merchants can embed payment buttons into their mobile web sites, linking to iCloud credentials, meaning that on-line shoppers don’t have to fill out credit card information each time make a purchase.

The newly announced payment partnership with Dominos has the potential to significantly increase Google Wallet adoption.
