GlassPay Brings Bitcoin Mobile Payments to Google Glass

RedBottle Design recently introduced GlassPay, an app for Google Glass and Android devices that processes mobile payments using bitcoins. The app lets users in stores create a virtual shopping cart by scanning the barcodes of items they want to purchase, and then buy them digitally with bitcoins, making payment at the register unnecessary. Among the app’s advantages is the ability for shoppers to skip checkout lines and know the total cost of their purchases as they shop. RedBottle says merchants benefit because bitcoins and GlassPay carry no transaction fees, offer better customer engagement, and provide enhanced customer behavior analytics. “With GlassPay, we’re taking one of the most basic cultural experiences—the act of purchasing items—and bringing it into the future,” says RedBottle CEO Guy Paddock. “Bitcoins are gaining significant acceptance in the worldwide marketplace, and we know that face-to-face, app-based shopping and purchasing is in the next wave.” GlassPay is anticipated to launch at the Play and Glass Boutique marketplaces in the second quarter of 2014.
