Facebook and Others Partner for M-Commerce Payment
On Sept. 23, Facebook rolled out Autofill With Facebook, a partnership with mobile payment processors allowing users to autofill payment information with that stored on Facebook. Initially the Autofill will be available to customers of the JackThreads and Mosaic mobile apps through a partnership with payment processor Braintree, which provides processing for both apps. At checkout users will see a Autofill Your Info button that will take them to the Facebook mobile app to review and authorize their previously stored payment information. Facebook plans to expand the program to other apps and currently both Stripe and PayPal are are committed to integrate the Autofill feature into their payment services. Facebook’s Deb Liu says Autofill is part of the social network’s current focus on monetizing mobile. “Mobile is where the conversion gap is, where our customers are going in the future. It’s really important to make this an amazing mobile product,” she notes. However, Liu also says the company does not rule out eventually bringing Autofill to desktop e-commerce.
