ETA Statement by Jason Oxman, Chief Executive Officer, Electronic Transactions Association (ETA), Regarding the Agreement by Visa and MasterCard to License Their Respective Common U.S. Debit AID.
ETA commends Visa and MasterCard who today reached an agreement to license their respective common U.S. debit solutions to each other to assist the industry with a more streamlined approach to route U.S. chip debit transactions over multiple, unaffiliated networks. This announcement signals progress toward the goal of finding a single common debit AID for EMV in the U.S. market. ETA continues to advocate for a single common US debit AID for EMV and encourages all debit networks to work together to agree upon a single AID solution for US debit routing under EMV. Due to the networks’ implementation timetables for EMV, time is of the essence and it is essential to determine a single common debit AID solution as soon as possible.
